RBBA Umpire Training Clinic

RBBA President, Randy Vinyard will be offering umpire training sessions over the next few weeks to teach the rules of the game of baseball.  This program will be for 12, 13 and 14 year olds who are looking to get involved and want to learn how to call a game from behind the plate as well as the bases.   And they can make some money doing it as well.    There will be no guarantee that everyone will get in a game this season, but we will do our best to try.

Once the training program is complete, we'll get the umpires out starting with Instruction Baseball Games, and Minor Baseball games.     Patched umpires are required at the Major Level.

To become a IHSA Patched umpire, you must be 17 years old and register with IHSA, take a test and pass successfuly, then renew every year.   This is a great start at the perfect age to get exposed to the game, learn the rules and call games at the lower levels.

After looking at the game and field availability schedules, we will try to get the 1st training session scheduled for this weekend.

At this time, we have to limit the amount of spots to 15 kids.

This will be 3 sessions at 2 hours each and there is no cost for this training.   There will be a test at the end of the training session.  For those who pass the test, they will be given a chance to start umpiring in Instructional Baseball games and with a few games under their belt, they can call the bases in a Minor League game.    We will provide the managers with umpire evaluation forms after each game for them to fill out to provide constructive and honest comments on how the umpire performed.

If there are kids that are interested in more training sessions, even after the season, we would consider holding addtional training.   This will prepare them for next season and then they can call games from behind the plate in Minor League games and the bases.

If your child who is between 12 and 14 is interested in this program, please reach out to Randy.    Please let him know your child's name, age and birthday.  Again, we can only take 15 at this time and it will be the 1st 15 that reach out to me.   If we have interest in more than 15, we can look at holding another session.
